New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday extended his congratulations to Harivansh for his re-election as Deputy Chairman of the House for an impressive third consecutive term.

Simultaneously, the Congress President expressed concerns about the ongoing vacancy of the Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker position since 2019, labeling it as inconsistent with the spirit of the Constitution.
He called upon the Union government to promptly appoint individuals to such crucial constitutional roles, irrespective of political affiliations.
Earlier, the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, J.P. Nadda, introduced the motion nominating Harivansh. While Opposition parties refrained from fielding a candidate, they chose to boycott the election proceedings.
After Harivansh's unopposed election, leaders from various parties conveyed their congratulations to the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his congratulations to Harivansh on his re-election as the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
The position of the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman became vacant following Harivansh's term expiration on April 9.
