Raghav Chadha Congratulates Harivansh on His Third Term as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Raghav Chadha, a member of the Rajya Sabha representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), extended his best wishes to Harivansh as he embarks on his third term as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
"As the recently dismissed Deputy Leader of AAP, I express my gratitude for allowing me to speak and to congratulate Harivansh Ji on his new journey as Deputy Chairman of the Upper House," Chadha remarked.
Chadha humorously noted that his past interactions with Harivansh Ji were a mix of 'khatta-meetha', but he hopes for a shift towards a more harmonious 'meetha-meetha' relationship during this new term.
He elaborated that their relationship occasionally faced challenges when discussions strayed off-topic, leading to reprimands from the Rajya Sabha Chairman, whereas it blossomed during focused debates on pertinent issues.
Chadha expressed confidence that Harivansh Ji's extensive experience would significantly enhance the House's operations and maintain its dignity, decorum, and democratic values. He shared this sentiment on the social media platform X.
The AAP MP urged the Deputy Chairman to permit speakers a few additional seconds to complete their speeches after the bell rings in the Upper House.
"I stand with the entire House in welcoming Harivansh Ji and congratulating him on his new role as Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha," Chadha stated.
Chadha also thanked Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan for adjusting the Zero Hour arrangements, now allowing 20-22 members to voice their opinions.
Previously, only five members had the chance to speak during Zero Hour. "On behalf of both the ruling and opposition benches, I appreciate your efforts in enabling more members to utilize this time effectively," he noted.
These comments followed the recent ED raids on AAP's new Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha, Ashok Mittal, two days prior.
On April 15, the ED conducted searches at Mittal's premises and educational institutions he and his family promote in Haryana and Punjab, under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
These raids have heightened political tensions between AAP in Punjab and the Central government, with opposition leaders accusing central investigative agencies of selective targeting.
