New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, urgently penned a letter to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh on Friday, expressing his astonishment over the unexpected presence of CISF personnel in the House and voicing his concerns regarding this controversial practice.
Kharge stated that he was communicating on behalf of all Opposition parties, emphasizing that members were shocked and dismayed by the entry of CISF, a component of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), into Parliament with an apparent intent to regulate the proceedings of the House.
“We are utterly shocked at how the CISF personnel were allowed to rush into the Well of the House while members exercised their democratic right to protest,” LoP Kharge articulated in the letter.
He noted that the CISF had invaded the House for a second consecutive day on Friday and warned the government about such unacceptable behavior.
“We witnessed this yesterday and again today. Has our Parliament been diminished to such a state? This is extremely objectionable, and we condemn it firmly,” Kharge added.
He further remarked, “We anticipate that in the future, CISF personnel will refrain from storming into the Well of the House while Members of Parliament address significant public issues.”
Congress General Secretary and Communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh disseminated Kharge’s letter, hinting at a potential takeover of the chamber by CISF personnel.
“Following the unexpected resignation of the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, we are now witnessing a takeover of the Council of States by CISF personnel,” he stated in a post on X.
“The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha has communicated this shocking development to the Deputy Chairman,” he added.
Importantly, both Houses of Parliament have been experiencing ongoing disruptions due to issues surrounding the Pahalgam terror attack, 'Operation Sindoor', and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
While marathon discussions took place this week regarding the Pahalgam attack and 'Operation Sindoor', reaching an agreement on SIR discussions remains elusive.
