Khilli Ram Meena Assumes Role as Mizoram's Chief Secretary

Aizawl, Nov 28 (NationPress) Senior IAS officer Khilli Ram Meena officially assumed his responsibilities as the new Chief Secretary of Mizoram on Thursday.

Immediately after taking office, Meena paid a courtesy visit to Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at the Raj Bhavan.

According to sources from Raj Bhavan, the Governor provided a brief overview of several key issues related to the development of Mizoram during their meeting.

The new Chief Secretary also held a courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday evening.

As per officials, Meena, a 1993-batch IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, succeeded acting Chief Secretary H. Lalengmawia, who is a 2005-batch IAS officer.

He takes over from Renu Sharma, who retired on October 31.

Before this new role, Meena served as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Born on December 4, 1967, in Rajasthan, Meena possesses a Master’s degree in history and joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1993.

Previously, the Mizoram government had requested the Centre to appoint Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992 batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre and the current Civil Aviation Secretary, as the new Chief Secretary.

During a recent trip to New Delhi, Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to advocate for Vualnam’s appointment to replace Renu Sharma.

Vualnam has held various significant positions in the Central government, including Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Company Affairs.

He has also served in several important capacities within the Manipur government and was an advisor to the executive director at the World Bank before being appointed Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation in August 2023.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs reportedly declined the request and appointed Meena instead.

The Chief Minister previously praised the contributions of former Chief Secretary Renu Sharma, who is a 1988 batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre.
