Mizoram Presents Significant Opportunities in Tourism: Governor

Aizawl, Nov 28 (NationPress) Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati remarked on Thursday that Mizoram boasts substantial potential in the tourism industry and underscored the importance of taking proactive steps to boost tourist footfall, aiming to draw in more visitors from various regions of India and encourage them to explore Mizoram and its inhabitants.
During a discussion regarding various matters with Mizoram's newly appointed Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena at the Raj Bhavan, the Governor pointed out the necessity of investigating additional helicopter services to cater to public demand, as well as the possibility of utilizing the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) -- UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme alongside other initiatives.
Kambhampati stressed the critical need to prioritize the implementation of central government schemes, welfare initiatives, and social security programs to ensure Mizoram’s ongoing development.
He highlighted the significance of infrastructure development, especially in terms of road connectivity, digital infrastructure, and advancements in power generation, which he believes are essential for the state’s growth.
The Governor also brought attention to the numerous positive attributes of Mizoram, noting that it is India’s most peaceful and harmonious state, characterized by a higher literacy rate, discipline, and a superior quality of life.
He urged the Chief Secretary to collaborate effectively with relevant departments and agencies to facilitate the timely and successful execution of major infrastructure projects, particularly concerning roads and railways.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of properly executing border roads to boost trade and other developmental prospects.
During the meeting, the new Chief Secretary informed the Governor about his previous roles and experiences.
Khilli Ram Meena, a 1993 batch IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, officially took charge as Mizoram’s new Chief Secretary on Thursday.
Prior to this appointment, Meena served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs under the Central Government before transitioning to the Chief Secretary role in Mizoram.
He arrived in Aizawl on Wednesday and held a courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday evening.
