Kolkata, Feb 14 (NationPress) A secondary (Madhyamik) examination student tragically passed away, allegedly taking her own life in the Topsia locality of Kolkata, according to police reports on Saturday.

The young girl was found deceased after hanging herself with a veil following a disappointing performance in her Mathematics exam.

Authorities reported that her body was discovered in her home on the night of Thursday.

The victim's family expressed concerns that she had been struggling with depression ever since the math examination, which took place on the same day.

The police have initiated a case of unnatural death and are thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The secondary examinations concluded on February 12.

According to her family, while she performed well in the other subjects, her anxiety about the math exam weighed heavily on her.

They alleged that the girl had been experiencing mental distress.

Suspicion arose when she failed to respond for an extended period on Thursday night.

Her relatives entered the home only to find her hanging from the ceiling.

She was immediately transported to the National Medical College and Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.

An autopsy has been ordered for her remains.

Upon receiving news of the tragedy, officers from the Topsia police station promptly arrived at the scene.

It was reported that no suicide note was discovered near the deceased.

According to the police, the student resided in a multi-storey building located on Mahendra Roy Lane under the jurisdiction of the Topsia police.

At the time of the incident, her father, mother, sister, and grandmother were present at home.

On that Thursday, both parents had left the house, while her grandmother and sister were in the same room.

The student locked herself in the adjacent room. Neither her sister nor grandmother called out to her.

"Upon returning home in the evening, her parents checked on their eldest daughter and discovered the door locked from within. After knocking and calling out without a response, they grew concerned. The parents were devastated when they entered the room and found their daughter hanging from the ceiling fan with a veil around her neck," a senior official from the Kolkata Police stated.

Point of View

I believe it's imperative to approach this tragedy with sensitivity. The pressures on students today can be overwhelming, leading to alarming consequences. We must advocate for better mental health resources and support systems within educational institutions to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
