KTR Accuses BJP of Sabotaging Women’s Reservation Bill
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, April 17 (NationPress) K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has accused the BJP of causing the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.
According to him, the Bill's demise was due to the BJP's intentional association of the matter with the controversial topic of delimitation, which effectively obstructed its passage. He emphasized that all political entities, including the BRS, supported the notion of women’s reservations, yet the BJP's strategic maneuvering ensured that the Bill did not come to fruition.
Rao criticized the BJP for complicating the Bill by unnecessarily intertwining it with delimitation, thus depriving women of their rightful representation. He asserted that the reservations could have been enacted immediately within the current framework of 543 Lok Sabha seats, but the BJP opted to politicize the entire issue.
The BRS leader claimed that the BJP was attempting to undermine southern states by linking women’s reservations to delimitation, disregarding objections from various parties. He noted that this approach has resulted in the loss of a significant opportunity for the empowerment of women.
KTR pointed out that citizens have witnessed the BJP's political theatrics regarding women’s reservations. He alleged that the party exploited the subject for electoral gain and has ultimately let down women across the nation.
He insisted that the BJP should promptly introduce a new Women’s Reservation Bill without any ties to delimitation and ensure its enactment in future elections to demonstrate its authenticity.
KTR remarked that delimitation is a complex issue, warning that the current strategy could diminish the representation of southern states in Parliament. He called on the Centre to engage in comprehensive consultations before proceeding further.
He stated that the recent developments in Parliament should serve as a cautionary tale for the BJP against advocating unilateral decisions on sensitive national matters.
K. Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruthi, accused the BJP of once again deceiving the women of India, fully aware that linking delimitation to the Women’s Reservation would likely lead to opposition votes against the bill.
In her social media remarks, she noted that despite recognizing their lack of sufficient numbers, the government rushed to introduce the bill.
“The sentiments of women in this nation are being manipulated for political benefit. I encourage all women to see through this web of deceit and hold the BJP accountable, starting with West Bengal, where a woman is at the forefront of the fight. Furthermore, with the bill’s failure, they should await the 2027 Census to include an OBC sub-quota. Representation remains ineffective until all communities are uplifted,” she added.
