Hyderabad, Feb 12 (NationPress) K. T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Wednesday urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to issue an apology to the Backward Classes (BCs) for the alleged reduction of their population in the caste survey.

Following the Congress government's announcement of an additional caste survey this month to include those who did not participate previously, Rama Rao stated that the government has finally recognized the survey as a collection of errors.

However, the BRS leader insisted that the Chief Minister must offer an unconditional apology to all backward communities in the state, as their population reduction has caused substantial emotional distress.

Rao criticized the Congress government for passing a resolution in the Assembly based on flawed data, despite clear objections from the BRS and BC associations regarding the incomplete survey.

Known popularly as KTR, he emphasized that local body elections should be conducted only after a thorough second survey is performed and a legal framework ensuring 42 percent reservation for BCs is established.

“Simply passing a resolution and relegating BC reservations to the central government will not be accepted by backward class organizations, including the BRS,” he asserted.

KTR reminded that the BCs in the state will not place their trust in the Congress party until it fulfills its commitment made in the Kamareddy BC declaration.

During the 2023 Assembly elections, the Congress party had promised 42 percent reservation for backward classes.

Previously, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka declared that the State Cabinet intends to pass a resolution in the first week of March to guarantee a 42 percent reservation for backward classes.

He mentioned that a Bill will be introduced in the Assembly to provide statutory support for the 42 percent quota for BCs/OBCs in various sectors, including politics, education, and employment.

Vikramarka also stated that the Bill will be forwarded to the Central government, with all efforts aimed at ensuring its passage in Parliament.

A constitutional amendment will be necessary if the overall reservation for all groups exceeds 50 percent.
