New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday commended the participation of people in the Maha Kumbh, taking place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, as a celebration of India's unity in diversity.
During the 118th episode of his monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi referred to the Maha Kumbh as the "Ekta Ka Maha Kumbh" (Maha Kumbh of Unity).
"Maha Kumbh has commenced in Prayagraj. The sights are remarkable—memorable crowds and an extraordinary blend of equality and harmony. This year, the festival has been enhanced with divine planetary alignments. The Kumbh represents the festival of unity in diversity," he stated.
Emphasizing the inclusivity of the event, PM Modi mentioned, "Individuals from all over the globe convene at the sands of Sangam. This ancient tradition is free from discrimination or casteism. People from the south, east, and west of India unite. The rich and the poor come together at the Kumbh, taking a sacred dip in the Sangam, sharing community meals, and receiving prasad. That is why the Kumbh is truly the Ekta Ka Maha Kumbh."
He highlighted that the Kumbh showcases how traditions unite the nation, stating, "From Prayagraj, Ujjain, Haridwar, and Nasik in the north to Pushkaram festivals along the Godavari, Krishna, Narmada, and Kaveri rivers in the south, all are connected by shared beliefs. Likewise, from Kumbakonam to Thirukadaiyur, Kudavasal to Tirucherai, numerous temples embody traditions associated with the Kumbh."
Observing the growing involvement of youth in the festival, the Prime Minister remarked, "When the younger generation proudly connects with its civilization, its roots grow stronger, paving the way for a prosperous future."
He also praised the technological advancements seen at the Kumbh, describing its global appeal as "a point of pride for every Indian."
PM Modi additionally highlighted the significant attendance at the Gangasagar Mela in West Bengal during Makar Sankranti, noting, "Events like Kumbh, Pushkaram, and Gangasagar Mela promote social harmony, unity, and traditions that link the people of India."
Reflecting on how India's festivals reinforce spiritual, social, cultural, and economic dimensions, he drew comparisons with the focus on religion, wealth, desire, and scriptures in Indian philosophy.
The Prime Minister also commemorated the first anniversary of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, describing it as "a day of the renaissance of India's cultural consciousness."
"As we advance on the development path, it is crucial to preserve our heritage and draw inspiration from it," he emphasized.
The Maha Kumbh 2025 officially commenced on Paush Purnima, with thousands of saints and devotees braving the cold to take a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam, the holy confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj.
