Chhindwara, Jan 15 (NationPress) On Wednesday, three labourers who were trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed well in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district succumbed to their injuries. The incident occurred on Tuesday while they were engaged in repairs on the deteriorating structure.

While six workers were successfully rescued from the debris on Tuesday, three remained trapped within the depths of the well.

A concerted rescue effort involving both the SDRF and NDRF lasted for 20 hours; however, by the time rescuers reached the stranded workers on Wednesday, they were already deceased.

Officials reported that the rescue efforts faced challenges due to water flow into the well, necessitating the excavation of a parallel hole to access the workers trapped at a depth of 30 feet.

The victims have been identified as Wasid Khan (18), Sehzadi Khan (50), and her son Rashid Khan (18).

The accident transpired on Tuesday afternoon as the labourers were working on a dilapidated well in a village within the Chhindwara district.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow over the incident and announced financial aid of Rs 4 lakh for each family affected by the tragedy.

The Chief Minister stated that the police, Home Guard, and NDRF teams commenced the rescue operation immediately, striving to save the workers, but unfortunately, three could not be retrieved in time.

"The government will provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of all the deceased. I pray to Almighty God to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their families in this time of great sorrow," CM Yadav remarked in a statement.
