Srinagar, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Chief Secretary of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, expressed concern that certain speculative media reports regarding the current discussions between Ladakh representatives and the Centre are skewing public perception negatively. In a statement released on Friday, the Ladakh UT Chief Secretary stated, “The speculative media reports provide a negative bias to the ongoing conversations of HPC in Delhi.

He reiterated that the negotiations with ABL and KDA were both constructive and meaningful, emphasizing the Government's commitment to a process of democratic dialogue involving all stakeholders in Ladakh.

“I urge the residents of Ladakh and all involved parties to refrain from spreading baseless rumors,” he added.

“The Government's objective is to address the democratic aspirations of Ladakh in a fair and judicious manner, prioritizing the long-term interests of the local populace,” the Chief Secretary remarked.

It should be noted that recent media reports have claimed that the Centre denied the inclusion of the region in the 6th schedule during ongoing discussions.

These reports further alleged that the demand for statehood had also been rejected, while tribal status, which would allow for the positions of chief minister and deputy chief minister, had been proposed.

In response to these speculative reports, some representatives from Kargil dismissed the notion of negotiating under such terms with the Centre.

For the first time, the Buddhist-majority Leh district and the Muslim-majority Kargil district have united their voices in advocating for statehood and inclusion in the 6th schedule of the Constitution, asserting that these measures are essential for the preservation of the region's environment, culture, and history.

Point of View

I believe it is imperative to approach the ongoing discussions between Ladakh representatives and the Centre with a balanced perspective. The Chief Secretary's call for constructive dialogue is crucial in fostering trust and transparency. The voices of both Leh and Kargil districts need to be heard as they unite in their quest for statehood and constitutional inclusion, which is vital for preserving their unique cultural heritage. It is vital to prioritize genuine dialogue over speculative narratives.
