PM Modi launches ₹14,000 crore projects in Banaskantha, releases PM-KISAN instalment
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gujarat's Banaskantha district on Friday, 30 October, holding a high-energy roadshow that drew large crowds along the route. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi accompanied the Prime Minister throughout the event. The visit is the first leg of a two-day Gujarat tour spanning 30–31 October, during which Modi is set to launch and dedicate development projects worth more than ₹14,000 crore in Banaskantha.
PM-KISAN and Key Announcements
One of the marquee financial actions of the day is the release of the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), amounting to approximately ₹19,000 crore. The scheme, which provides direct income support to farmers across the country, has now entered its eighth year of operation, making this instalment among the largest single-day transfers under the programme. This comes amid sustained pressure on rural incomes and a broader government push to shore up agricultural livelihoods ahead of the winter crop cycle.
India's First Kankrej Cattle Research Centre Dedicated
A centrepiece of the Banaskantha visit is the formal dedication of the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC) at Bhildi to the nation. Spread across 127 acres, the facility is designed as a Centre of Excellence focused on cattle breeding, genetic improvement, and advanced reproductive technologies. According to the Prime Minister's Office, it is expected to accelerate breed improvement by 10 to 20 times. Notably, the centre is the country's first facility exclusively dedicated to the Kankrej cattle breed, an indigenous variety native to the Banas region. Prior to the inauguration, Modi had highlighted the centre's potential in a post on social media platform X, stating it would help increase milk production per animal, improve breed quality, raise farmers' incomes, and support the conservation of indigenous cattle breeds.
Infrastructure and Clean Energy Projects
Modi is also scheduled to lay the foundation stones for two Bio-CNG plants of Banas Dairy at Tharad and Radhanpur, with cattle dung processing capacities of 75 metric tonnes and 100 metric tonnes per day, respectively. These plants are positioned as part of India's push toward circular agriculture — converting bovine waste into commercial energy while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Other infrastructure on the agenda includes the expansion of the Ahmedabad Metro towards the airport and GIFT City; the widening of the Ahmedabad-Mehsana Road from four to eight lanes at an estimated cost of ₹2,600 crore; and the development of 4,030 new child-friendly Anganwadi centres. Modi will also dedicate 521 completed projects under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, with a combined project cost of approximately ₹4,950 crore.
Rail Services and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
The Prime Minister is set to flag off the Ahmedabad (Sabarmati)–Varanasi Express and the Mehsana-Becharaji-Sabarmati MEMU services, further strengthening rail connectivity in northern Gujarat. Later on Friday, Modi will travel to Ekta Nagar in Narmada district to inaugurate 'Bharat Parv 2026' and witness the 'Ekta Prakash Parv' as part of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations. The day's packed itinerary underscores the political and developmental significance Gujarat holds as Modi's home state and a testing ground for flagship welfare and infrastructure schemes.
