Silchar, Feb 26 (NationPress) Authorities apprehended a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative along with three of his accomplices in various locations across southern Assam and Meghalaya, as reported by officials on Wednesday evening.

A high-ranking police official disclosed that on February 21, a tip-off was received from an employee of Jhandu Infratech Ltd., a firm involved in highway construction, regarding a call from an individual claiming to be affiliated with the banned terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) who demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore.

The caller threatened severe repercussions if the ransom was not paid within a stipulated timeframe, the official added.

Upon receiving the alert, Cachar Police filed a case at the Katigorah Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.

On Wednesday, law enforcement captured two accomplices of the main suspect in the Kalain region. The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Alekuddin (25) and Ajiruddin alias Amiruddin (27), both hailing from Katigorah.

Through technical analysis and intensive questioning of the accomplices, police managed to apprehend the main suspect Boktar Hussain (29) and another associate named Samsir Uddin Barbhuiya (28) from Rymbai Village in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills District with assistance from the Meghalaya police.

Hussain is from Kachudaram while Barbhuiya resides in Katigorah, both within the Cachar district. Investigators recovered the mobile device and sim card utilized for the ransom call from the main suspect.

In parallel, the Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF), as part of its operation 'Praghat', has arrested a total of 16 affiliates of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a Bangladesh-based terrorist organization linked with Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), from Chennai.

The STF has detained 16 associates, including the Bangladeshi national Md Sad Radi, from various states including Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala since December of the previous year.

Sources from the STF indicated that these detainees were operating under the guidance of Md Farhan Israk, a close aide of Jasimuddin Rahmani, the leader of ABT.

“The ABT dispatched a Bangladeshi national, Md Sad Radi alias Md Shab Sheikh (32), from Rajshahi, Bangladesh, to India to disseminate their malicious ideology among like-minded individuals in the country,” said the sources.
