New Delhi, Oct 17 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against a migrant worker from Bihar for allegedly aiding banned terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in executing terror operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu, as reported by the agency on Friday.
As per the NIA, "Akhalatur also known as Mohammed Akhlaque Mujahid, from Katihar district in Bihar, has been charged under sections 196 and 197 of the BNS and Sections 13 (1) (b) & 39 of the UA(P) Act in the chargesheet submitted today to the NIA Special Court at Poonamallee, Chennai, Tamil Nadu."
The accused, who worked as a labourer at a private construction site in Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), was apprehended by the Kayar, Chengalpattu Police, in April of this year for his participation in activities against the nation.
The NIA further elaborated that during their investigation, it was revealed that the accused had been in contact with LeT operatives in Pakistan via cyberspace, conspiring to target non-believers of Islam in Tamil.
The NIA disclosed that the accused also made attempts to reach out to an arms dealer, aiming to execute an attack that would destabilize the nation.
Furthermore, investigations indicated that Akhalatur sought to engage arms and weapons dealers to procure firearms for a Jihadi style attack aimed at undermining national stability.
Fortunately, his plans were intercepted by the NIA and other security agencies.
The agency stated, "Investigations in the case RC-01/2025/NIA/CHE (Akhalatur LeT and Salafi Ideologue case) are ongoing to mitigate radicalization and violent extremism in India."
It is noteworthy that just days ago, the agency had charge sheeted eight individuals in connection with the 2020 transnational narco-terror network case, which involved smuggling drugs from Pakistan into India via the sea route through Gujarat.
The drugs were intended to fund the LeT terror group.
