Nara Lokesh sworn in as TDP's first-ever National Working President

Nara Lokesh on Wednesday, 29 April took oath as the National Working President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) — a newly created post that marks the first time in the party's 44-year history that such a position has been established. The oath ceremony was held at the party headquarters in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, and was administered by TDP National President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

A Historic First for TDP

The swearing-in covered the newly constituted Politburo, National Committee, and State Committee, all of which were announced on 15 April. Wednesday's ceremony formalised the restructured party apparatus. Before the oath was administered, Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh, and other senior leaders paid tributes to the party's founding president, the late N.T. Rama Rao (NTR).

Lokesh's Rise and What It Signals

At 43 years old, Lokesh — son of the 76-year-old Naidu — has long been regarded as the heir-apparent within TDP circles. His elevation to the National Working President's post is widely seen as a formal acknowledgement of that succession. He currently holds the portfolio of Human Resources Development, Information Technology and Electronics in the Andhra Pradesh government. His promotion comes nearly two years after the TDP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power in the state with a landslide majority, and is seen as a reward for the pivotal role he played in the party's electoral success.

New Committees: Veterans and Fresh Faces

The reconstituted committees reflect a deliberate balance between experience and youth. Notably, for the first time in TDP's history, leaders from the Mandal and Cluster levels have been inducted into the Politburo. Mangalagiri cluster in-charge Guthikonda Dhanunjay and Gantyada Mandal party president Gantyada Sridevi are among those elevated to the Politburo.
