Amaravati, Jan 18 (NationPress) Seven months following the establishment of the Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance administration in Andhra Pradesh, TDP leaders have begun urging Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to elevate his son and minister, Nara Lokesh, to the position of Deputy Chief Minister.
TDP Politburo member Srinivas Reddy articulated this request during a meeting addressed by the Chief Minister in Mydukur, located in YSR Kadapa district. This gathering was held to commemorate the death anniversary of N. T. Rama Rao, the founding leader of TDP.
Reddy expressed to Chandrababu Naidu that promoting Lokesh to Deputy Chief Minister is vital for the party's promising future. He stated, “We have a wish. It has been 43 years since TDP’s inception. A third-generation leader, Nara Lokesh, has emerged in the party. We desire for Lokesh to ascend as Deputy CM to inspire the youth and the party,” emphasizing that this move would secure a brighter future for TDP.
He also noted that the public is noticing Lokesh's efforts to engage the youth, advance Information Technology, and attract various companies to the state. “We trust that you will elevate him further to guarantee a prosperous future for our party,” he added.
In a previous comment, another TDP leader, Mahasena Rajesh, advocated for Lokesh’s promotion to Deputy Chief Minister, citing the future necessities of both the party and the government. Rajesh highlighted that Lokesh has already gained recognition as a capable minister and possesses the qualifications to assume the Deputy CM role.
He remarked that while nepotism is unacceptable, denying opportunities based on lineage is equally unjust. The calls for Lokesh's promotion have emerged amid concerns among certain TDP leaders that Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is exerting undue influence within the government and dictating coalition terms.
Pawan Kalyan leads Jana Sena, which, alongside BJP, is a partner in the TDP-led coalition government. A faction of TDP leaders seeks to position Lokesh as Naidu’s successor. With Naidu set to turn 75 on April 20, the push from Lokesh’s supporters within the party is anticipated to intensify, aiming to designate the young leader as the ‘heir apparent’. Lokesh currently serves as the national general secretary of TDP and as the Minister for Information Technology and Human Resources Development.
