Prime Minister Holness emerged victorious in the elections on Thursday after a closely contested battle against the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
Last year, PM Holness made a notable visit to India, spending four days from October 1 to October 3.
During a joint press conference post their bilateral talks in New Delhi, PM Modi emphasized the importance of people-to-people connections between the two countries.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome PM Holness to India. This marks the first-ever bilateral visit by a Jamaican Prime Minister to India, and we regard this trip with utmost significance,” stated Prime Minister Modi.
“PM Holness has been a long-standing friend of India. We have engaged in numerous meetings, and I consistently find his perspectives aligned with our goal of enhancing relations with India. His visit will not only fortify our bilateral ties but also invigorate our engagement with the entire Caribbean region,” he further added.
PM Modi noted that India-Jamaica relations are rooted in “shared history, democratic ideals, and robust people-to-people connections.”
“Our relations are characterized by four Cs - culture, cricket, Commonwealth, and CARICOM (Caribbean Community)... The business and investment landscape between India and Jamaica is flourishing. India has consistently proven to be a reliable and committed partner in Jamaica's developmental journey,” stated PM Modi, highlighting India's contributions to Jamaica's skill development through ITEC and ICCR scholarships.
Throughout their discussions, both leaders identified several initiatives focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
PM Modi expressed India's willingness to share expertise in domains such as digital public infrastructure, small-scale industries, biofuel, innovation, health, education, and agriculture.
