Madhya Pradesh: Free Treatment for Blood Cancer Patient Through Ayushman Bharat Initiative

Ahmedabad, Dec 26 (NationPress) Gildar Singh Dawar, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, found himself in a dire situation when he was diagnosed with blood cancer (leukemia) in 2017. Since then, he has been undergoing costly treatment, but in 2022, he discovered a much-needed relief by enrolling as a beneficiary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
Thanks to this flagship initiative by the government led by Prime Minister Modi, Dawar is not only recovering from his deteriorating health but is also saving approximately Rs 25,000 each month that he was spending on treatment since 2017.
In a conversation with IANS, he shared his experience: "I was diagnosed with blood cancer, specifically leukemia, in 2017. Since then, I have been receiving treatment at a hospital in Indore, where my expenses ranged from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 monthly.
"However, after learning about Ayushman Bharat and utilizing the benefits of this scheme, I am now receiving the same treatment at no cost. I've been getting treatment in Ahmedabad since December 2022," he mentioned.
Dawar added: "The Ayushman Bharat scheme is covering all my hospitalization and medical costs. I have experienced a remarkable improvement in my health and, most importantly, I do not have to pay a single rupee for the treatment."
He also noted that he is receiving his medications from the hospital at no charge.
"This scheme is incredibly advantageous for families that cannot afford medical expenses. We are immensely grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His governance should last for many more years as he has accomplished a great deal for the underprivileged and marginalized," he remarked.
Significantly, PM-JAY is the largest health assurance scheme globally, offering secondary and tertiary care hospitalization benefits of up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually. The principal aim of the AB PM-JAY scheme is to achieve universal health coverage for all citizens.
This past September, the Union Cabinet approved the scheme's expansion, extending health insurance to senior citizens aged 70 and older. This initiative will provide free health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family, irrespective of income, benefiting approximately 6 crore senior citizens across 4.5 crore families.
