Madhya Pradesh Weather Alert: Will Very Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Impact Your Area?

Bhopal, Aug 17 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a significant warning for Madhya Pradesh, forecasting intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across numerous districts in the next 48 hours.

A red alert has been issued for Barwani and Burhanpur, where rainfall could surpass 8 inches by Monday morning.

Districts such as Harda, Khandwa, Khargone, along with parts of the Narmadapuram and Indore divisions, are under orange and yellow alerts, with expectations of heavy to very heavy rain.

The IMD has also highlighted the potential for gusty winds, lightning strikes, and waterlogging in low-lying areas, advising residents to stay indoors and avoid travel during storm conditions.

This weather phenomenon is fueled by a complex system of upper air cyclonic circulations combined with low-pressure areas.

A new low-pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal near the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha, anticipated to strengthen into a depression and move west-northwest, making landfall by August 19.

Concurrently, a residual cyclonic circulation from Vidarbha is drifting towards Gujarat, while a monsoon trough continues to traverse central India, amplifying rainfall activity.

In the western region, including Bhopal, Ujjain, Dewas, and Sehore, light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms is expected.

Bhopal recorded 8 mm of rain on Saturday, with daytime temperatures around 31 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures at 24 degrees Celsius.

Eastern districts like Jabalpur, Shahdol, Rewa, and Sagar have already experienced rainfall that is 30 percent above average, while the western divisions are 20 percent above normal. Overall, the state has achieved 84 percent of its seasonal rainfall quota, with an excess of 25 percent so far.

In districts such as Singrauli, Sidhi, Satna, and Mandla, scattered thunderstorms and lightning are likely to persist throughout the week, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 km/h in certain areas.

The weather center has urged farmers to refrain from working in open fields, unplug electrical devices, and avoid taking shelter under trees or electric poles during stormy weather.

Travelers are advised to plan carefully, as visibility may be dramatically reduced and roads could become impassable due to flooding.

Authorities have recommended steering clear of bridges and elevated roads during peak storm hours. With the active monsoon trough and multiple converging weather systems, the next 72 hours are crucial for central India. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official advisories and take all necessary precautions for their safety.
