Mumbai, May 13 (NationPress) - The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, convened on Tuesday to sanction a nominal stamp duty of Rs 1,000 for the registration of lease deeds for houses allocated in Mauja Punapur under the 'Home Sweet Home' initiative, specifically for those impacted by the Nagpur Smart City project.
As per the government's announcement, 28 houses have been distributed to individuals affected by the Smart City initiative. Previously, a stamp duty ranging from Rs 40,000 to 45,000 was required for registering these properties. The Cabinet, however, has now approved this greatly reduced stamp duty of Rs 1,000, aligning it with the stamp duty of Rs 1,000 charged for homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Additionally, the Cabinet has given the green light for the allocation of land in Chincholi (Tel. Kamthi, Dist. Nagpur) to establish a sub-centre of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
The only university of international standing under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National University of Forensic Science located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is set to establish a sub-centre in Nagpur. This sub-centre will be temporarily housed in the building of the Vishwas Cell, Police Help Centre Building, Parsodi-Subhash Nagar, Nagpur. The Union Home Ministry has allocated a grant of Rs 120 crore for this initiative from 2025-28, as per the official statement.
The land allocation aims to create a permanent location for this sub-centre, which will support the personnel from the Directorate of Judicial Scientific Laboratories, Mumbai, as well as all regional and smaller laboratories under its authority.
