Mumbai, Oct 31 (NationPress) The chief of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Harshvardhan Sapkal, has made allegations on Friday regarding police surveillance over him. He claims that personnel in plain clothes have entered his private residence without any authorization multiple times.
Residing in the Sarvodaya Ashram located in Mumbai's Nana Chowk area, Sapkal stated that police have been constantly monitoring his activities. He reported that a plainclothes officer entered his bedroom on Friday morning for the third time to conduct surveillance and questioning.
“Around 8 a.m., a cop entered my bedroom and started questioning me about whether I was planning to hold a press conference and if any journalists were present. When I inquired why he entered my room and on whose orders, he claimed it was under instructions from senior officers and suggested I speak to them over the phone,” Sapkal mentioned during a press conference.
Expressing concerns over what he termed as “state-sponsored surveillance”, the Congress leader questioned: “On what authority are we being monitored? Are these actions sanctioned by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis?”
He accused the ruling BJP of systematically spying on opposition leaders.
“This is indicative of the BJP’s inclination to surveil its adversaries -- from Pegasus to phone tapping, and now they've invaded our bedrooms. But we will not succumb to such intimidation,” Sapkal asserted.
In relation to the recent hostage situation and the police's encounter with Rohit Arya, Sapkal noted that while the rescue of the children was critical, “the way the incident was handled raises significant concerns.”
“Given that an NSG team was on site, why did the police resort to shooting him? The individual was reportedly mentally unstable, yet he had previously been involved in governmental initiatives like Sundar Mazi Shala (My Beautiful School) and had shared platforms with former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar. This incident warrants a comprehensive investigation,” Sapkal demanded.
The MPCC chief also pointed out political shielding in the case of Dr. Sampada Munde from Satara district, who allegedly committed suicide. “Dr. Munde was driven to take her life due to undue pressure — this was not suicide but murder. Former BJP MP Ranjitsingh Naik Nimbalkar has been implicated in the case. Despite his history of kidnapping, extortion, and assault, the state government cleared him without an investigation,” Sapkal alleged.
“Under Fadnavis, criminal behaviors have thrived and BJP leaders have adopted gangster-like tactics. Fadnavis bears sole responsibility — he is the godfather of criminals,” Sapkal stated.
He also announced an all-party march scheduled for November 1 against the Election Commission regarding alleged irregularities in voter lists.
“Irregularities in the voter lists are a serious issue. Rahul Gandhi was the first to bring these discrepancies to light with evidence. Everyone seeks fair and transparent elections. The Congress party endorses this march, and our leaders and workers will participate,” Sapkal concluded.
