Maha Congress Accuses BJP of Assaulting Indian Democracy via EVMs, ONOE

Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec 17 (NationPress) In a direct attack on the government, Maharashtra Congress President Nana F. Patole asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA is endeavoring to ‘murder’ the Indian democratic framework through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), during a media interaction on Tuesday.
Patole emphasized that the EVMs employed in the Lok Sabha elections were not utilized for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, suggesting that EVMs were reportedly transported from Gujarat for this purpose.
“There is significant misuse of EVMs. Members of the BJP are on the boards of the companies that manufacture these EVMs. The EVMs used in the Lok Sabha elections were not deployed during the state Assembly elections, and these machines were sent from Gujarat,” Patole claimed.
He criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its failure to uphold its constitutional responsibilities and alleged that its actions are directed by the BJP, thereby exposing the ECI’s true intentions. This comes despite the government and ECI dismissing all allegations against the EVMs.
Taking a jab at the One Nation-One Election initiative, Patole remarked that the BJP-RSS's efforts to undermine the country's democracy are apparent with the introduction of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill in Parliament on Tuesday.
Previously, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) legislators have been vocally protesting for the second consecutive day against the use of EVMs, the challenges faced by farmers, the custodial death of a Dalit man, Somnath Vyankat Suryawanshi, in Parbhani, and the murder of a Beed Sarpanch, Santosh Deshmukh.
The MVA legislators from Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (SP) raised slogans and displayed placards denouncing the MahaYuti government, accusing the police of alleged atrocities in Parbhani while protecting the perpetrators in the Beed case, and demanded action against the responsible officials in both situations.
With the opposition's unrest escalating, the Speaker announced that the matter concerning Parbhani will be addressed in the Assembly on Wednesday.
