Mumbai, December 15 (NationPress) Former minister and Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray asserted on Monday that the recent decisions aimed at promoting redevelopment in Mumbai by the BJP-led MahaYuti government ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are merely deceptions and misleading announcements, emphasizing that these initiatives favor builders and developers.

He elaborated that multiple announcements, such as making Mumbai Pagdi free, relocating high-frequency radar centres from Dahisar and Juhu to facilitate building redevelopment, and introducing a new redevelopment scheme for areas previously limited by defense restrictions, were made to meet the demands of the construction sector.

Regarding the Pagdi free Mumbai proposal, Aaditya Thackeray remarked, “Our request is to grant all tenants occupant status and legal protection from eviction by landlords, address the legal concerns of competent authority in court, and use the age of buildings as a basis for redevelopment instead of their condition.”

He further stated, “The government’s assurances imply that tenants will receive space only equivalent to what they currently occupy, while landlords and builders will gain additional FSI, TDR, and incentives. The BJP government prioritizes landlords and builders over tenants residing in pugree or cessed properties. We are committed to defending tenant rights and ensuring their protection.”

Aaditya Thackeray accused the Chief Minister of attempting to deceive Mumbaikars, particularly in Juhu, Andheri, and Dahisar.

“When I questioned the Chief Minister about his promises for redevelopment before every election over the last decade, his response was comical and a blatant falsehood. Regarding the High Frequency Radar in Dahisar, he claimed that alternative land has been identified in Gorai and that the AAI has approved this relocation. Instead of fabricating stories, we demand to see the land, the correspondence with AAI, their consent, and the progress made thus far,” he stated in a post on X.

“For Juhu, it’s an even larger falsehood to mask their failures,” he continued, noting that “the Chief Minister’s reply to my inquiry mentioned that a delegation from AAI has been invited to explore alternative lands for relocating the HFR, and only after their approval will the shifting process commence.”

“Why does the Chief Minister only remember this before elections? Why has nothing happened over the past decade? Why has the AAI delegation not arrived yet? This is nothing but empty announcements and responses to our inquiries as Mumbaikars from the BJP, which has been in power at both the Union and state levels for 12 and 10 years, respectively,” he remarked.

He urged Mumbaikars not to fall for the BJP's trap.
