Maharana Pratap Sena Calls for Investigation into Claims of Ajmer Dargah's Hindu Origins

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The national president of Maharana Pratap Sena, Rajvardhan Singh Parmar, is set to hold a press conference and file a petition in court on Monday, calling for an investigation into the historical validity of his assertion that the esteemed Ajmer Dargah was originally a Hindu temple.
In a press release, Parmar mentioned that a memorandum has already been submitted to the President of India, requesting a formal investigation into the issue.
In an interview with IANS, the Rajasthan state president of the Maharana Pratap Sena, Uday Lal Banjara, stated, "Our ancestors have always informed us about the destruction of temples during the Mughal period, which were then replaced by mosques or dargahs. We will present our case and respect the decision made by the court or the government."
Banjara reiterated Parmar’s requests, noting that letters had previously been sent to influential leaders, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, BJP leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah. These correspondences urged a thorough investigation into the claims that the Ajmer Dargah is built on the ruins of a Shiva temple.
“We are not inciting hatred or targeting any religion or community. This endeavor is about discovering historical truths through appropriate legal and archaeological avenues,” Banjara clarified.
He added that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) should examine the site but stressed that the ultimate decision rests with the government.
Previously, on November 27, Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta submitted a petition in a civil court in Ajmer, seeking notices to the Ajmer Dargah Committee, the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, and the ASI to investigate the site.
A collective of former bureaucrats and diplomats, including former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, also wrote to the Prime Minister expressing concern over escalating demands to investigate historical mosques and dargahs.
They highlighted the syncretic and pluralistic traditions of India and cautioned against utilizing such claims to create divisions among communities.
The Ajmer Dargah, one of the most sacred Sufi shrines in Asia, holds great importance for Muslims and individuals of various faiths, representing India's rich heritage of unity in diversity.
