Mumbai, Aug 18 (NationPress) Following the heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and the alert from the weather bureau predicting more rain in the next 48 hours, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar convened a review meeting on Monday to assess the situation and urged the administration to remain vigilant.

He instructed both state and district agencies to collaborate and prioritize rescue and relief operations, particularly as rain intensity escalated on Monday.

Dy CM Pawar has requested citizens to limit their outdoor activities to urgent needs, referring to the 'Red Alert' issued by the Meteorological Department for Mumbai and Raigad, which forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in the upcoming 48 hours.

He emphasized the importance of coordination among all administrative bodies during disasters, urging district agencies to stay alert and prioritize relief and the safety of citizens. Immediate implementation of necessary measures was directed.

“Residents in flood-affected areas should remain indoors whenever possible. If there is a risk of water entering their homes, they should seek refuge in safer locations. Only leave your house if absolutely required. Stay connected with local authorities and adhere to their guidance,” advised Dy CM Pawar.

He also urged state government officials and local self-government employees to prioritize their safety while fulfilling their duties.

The Guardian Minister for Mumbai District Suburb, Ashish Shelar, inspected the emergency response cell of the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation to assess the circumstances caused by the heavy downpour and waterlogging in certain areas.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti posted on X, stating, “Dear Mumbaikars, we advise caution as heavy rain persists under an 'Orange Alert'. Reports of waterlogging and diminished visibility have been coming in from various areas. Please avoid unnecessary travel, plan your routes carefully, and go out only when essential. Our teams are on high alert and available to help. In case of emergencies, dial 100, 112, or 103. Your safety is our priority.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assessed the situation in Nanded district of the Marathwada region, which experienced severe rainfall on Monday.

In a post on X, CM Fadnavis mentioned, “Due to the heavy rain in Mukhed taluka of Nanded district, the water level of the Lendi Dam has risen significantly. Water is also flowing from Latur, Udgir, and Karnataka. The rainfall recorded yesterday was approximately 206 mm. This has disrupted daily life in Ravangaon, Bhaswadi, Bhingeli, and Hasnal. Currently, 225 residents in Ravangaon are trapped in floodwaters, and evacuation efforts are ongoing for those in critical situations.

He added, “In Hasnal, 8 individuals have been rescued. In Bhaswadi, 20 individuals remain stranded but are safe. In Bhingeli, 40 individuals are also safe but stranded. Five individuals are missing, and search operations are underway.

“I am in constant communication with the Nanded District Collector, and the District Collectors of Nanded, Latur, and Bidar are coordinating rescue operations.

“One team from the NDRF, a military unit, and a police team are collaborating for rescue efforts. A military unit from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has also been dispatched. The local administration has been instructed to remain in the affected areas and maintain continuous coordination.”
