Mumbai, May 26 (NationPress) Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar traveled to the rain-impacted regions of Baramati, Indapur, and other neighboring areas severely affected by heavy downpours, instructing the administration to prioritize rescue and relief efforts.
His visit commenced at 6 am on Monday to assess the waterlogged areas.
The monsoon has officially arrived in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for substantial rainfall in Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts.
Additionally, a red alert will be in effect for Sindhudurg district on Tuesday, while Palghar has been placed under a yellow alert.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur districts.
“The intensity of rainfall will persist in the ghat regions of Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur for a few more days. Local agencies must remain vigilant, prioritizing the safety, rescue, and relief operations for residents,” stated the Deputy Chief Minister.
“Individuals in areas forecasted for heavy rain should exercise caution. Seek shelter in a secure location. Stay connected with local authorities, adhere to their guidance, and cooperate,” he added.
According to a release from the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office, Ajit Pawar visited villages in Baramati and Indapur talukas since early morning and monitored conditions throughout the day.
While touring rural Pune villages, he also evaluated rainfall, dam conditions, and the local situation in other districts via the State Level Disaster Control and Management Centre in Mantralaya.
He communicated with District Magistrates from districts facing heavy rainfall to gather updates on the situation and relief efforts. He mandated that a Panchnama of damages to agriculture, crops, livestock, and houses be conducted immediately.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that state and district officials should remain alert, maintain communication, and execute rescue and relief work promptly through collaboration.
He noted that Mumbai suburban railway services were disrupted due to the rains, with Harbour Railway services suspended. Central and Western Railway operations were running late, and the route from Mahad to Raigad Fort, the capital of Swarajya, has been closed due to the rainfall.
“Three priests trapped in a temple by the river in Pandharpur have been rescued. All elected officials, office bearers, and workers of the NCP have been directed to remain in their respective areas and provide essential assistance to the public,” he stated.
“Residents in areas experiencing heavy rainfall should remain indoors if feasible. If flooding is a risk, they should seek shelter in a safe spot, and only leave their homes when absolutely necessary,” he advised.
He also urged state government and local self-government officials to prioritize their safety while fulfilling their responsibilities.
