Mumbai, March 21 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday that his administration will erect a magnificent memorial to honor the heroic tale of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Balraje Shambhuraje's (Sambhaji) escape from Agra, showcasing the Maharaj's bravery for future generations. This memorial will be located in Agra, as revealed during the celebration of Shiv Jayanti, also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.
The state tourism department has been assigned the task of overseeing the implementation and financing of this project. A government notification was issued on Friday to this effect, ensuring that the construction of this grand memorial will gain momentum shortly. An independent committee comprising historians, experts, and knowledgeable individuals will be formed, chaired by the Tourism Minister, to guide the monument's construction. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation will act as the executive body under this department, as stated by the Chief Minister.
As per the notification, the Maharashtra government will acquire the land and structures in Agra where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was kept under house arrest to establish this grand memorial. The valorous legacy of the Maharaj will be depicted in this bravery memorial, including features like a museum, audio-visual presentations, and documentaries equipped with modern facilities.
“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Balraje Shambhuraje, revered figures of Maharashtra, were deceitfully confined by the Mughal Empire alongside their loyal followers. However, through his cunning and bravery, Maharaj liberated himself, Shambhuraje, and all the Mavla from captivity. This significant historical event holds interest not only for the Marathi populace but also for history enthusiasts. Tourists frequently seek to visit the site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's house arrest in Agra; however, the absence of historical context, monuments, or museums means that this proud history remains unknown to many,” states the government notification.
“Such a remarkable achievement, which is uncommon outside of Maharashtra, is a valuable and educational aspect of history. To honor this significant site and ensure that this legacy is preserved for future generations, the government has deliberately opted to develop such locations in other states as well,” the government notification concludes.
