Mumbai, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, emphasized on Tuesday that the government is dedicated to the comprehensive development of tribal regions, aiming for equitable growth through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
He highlighted that there are active efforts to integrate the tribal community into the mainstream society. Numerous initiatives are being rolled out to accomplish this objective.
CM Fadnavis addressed attendees at a conference hosted by the Tribal Development Department in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
He stressed the necessity for swift enhancements in education and healthcare for the tribal population.
"CSR funds should not be focused solely on urban centers but should be allocated for balanced development. Special emphasis should be placed on education and healthcare," he remarked.
While underscoring the rich history and cultural heritage of the tribal community, he acknowledged that, despite their own legal frameworks and values, they have lagged over time.
The central and state governments have introduced multiple schemes aimed at assimilating them into the mainstream society, fostering new hope in their lives. He also pointed out that the government is implementing various programs to ensure nutritional support for pregnant women and children.
"Maharashtra is home to approximately 9.5 percent of its total population from the tribal community, which represents about 10 percent of India's overall tribal population. This positions Maharashtra as a significant state with a notable tribal presence. Efforts are underway to provide high-quality education to tribal children and ensure that their innate talents receive due recognition. To facilitate this, admissions are being granted in esteemed schools," stated the Chief Minister.
He commended the Tribal Development Department for organizing this conference aimed at accelerating the progress of Scheduled Tribes.
Tribal Development Minister Ashok Uikey mentioned that, for the first time, the department has launched a program named 'CSR for Change', which fosters social responsibility collaborations for the upliftment of tribal communities.
"This initiative will enhance our efforts in executing welfare programs for tribal people through companies' CSR contributions," he added.
Tribal Development Department Secretary Vijay Waghmare, in his introductory remarks, detailed various schemes and government initiatives dedicated to the upliftment of tribal communities.
