Mumbai, Oct 7 (NationPress) In a minor bureaucratic reshuffle, the Maharashtra government has taken steps to enhance administrative efficiency by transferring and appointing seven senior IAS officers to new roles throughout the state.
As per an official announcement, M. Devendra Singh, who previously served as the District Collector of Ratnagiri, will now take on the role of Member Secretary of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) located in Mumbai.
Shekhar Singh, the Municipal Commissioner of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, has been designated as the Commissioner of the Kumbh Mela in Nashik, in preparation for the upcoming 2027 Simhastha.
Jalaj Sharma, the current District Collector of Nashik, will transition to the role of Metropolitan Commissioner of the Nashik Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA). Meanwhile, Ayush Prasad, the District Collector of Jalgaon, will now serve as the District Collector of Nashik.
In replacement of Prasad, Rohan Ghughe, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Thane, has been appointed as the District Collector of Jalgaon. Additionally, Sanjay Kolte, the Managing Director of the Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp Ltd (SRPL) in Mumbai, will assume the position of Sugar Commissioner in Pune, filling an existing vacancy.
Manoj Jindal, the Joint Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in Mumbai, will take over as the District Collector of Ratnagiri.
These transfers follow a recent high-level review meeting led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the preparations for the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.
Fadnavis has stressed that the Kumbh Mela symbolizes India's faith and cultural heritage, highlighting the importance of early planning and coordination.
These appointments are particularly significant as Maharashtra prepares for the long-overdue local body elections, likely scheduled after Diwali. They are anticipated to serve as a political litmus test for major parties, given the considerable administrative authority currently held by appointed officials.
The Supreme Court has mandated that the state government complete elections for 29 municipal corporations, 32 of 34 Zilla Parishads, 248 municipal councils, and 336 of the 351 Panchayat Samitis by January 31, 2026.
