Nashik, July 22 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate revealed the launch of the Krishi Samruddhi Yojana aimed at boosting farmers' incomes and fostering genuine prosperity through promotion of sustainable, cost-effective, and climate-friendly agricultural practices.
On the birthdays of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, he termed this initiative a present for farmers statewide to enhance agricultural prosperity.
The announcement comes at a critical time when farmers are facing financial distress due to the adverse effects of unseasonal rains and fluctuating market conditions.
“Farmers are vital to Maharashtra’s rural economy. The Agriculture Department has introduced this scheme to provide financial support that promotes capital investment in agriculture. The Cabinet has sanctioned a total allocation of Rs 5,000 crore annually for the next five years, commencing from 2025-26, summing up to Rs 25,000 crore for the Krishi Samruddhi Yojana,” stated Kokate.
Kokate elaborated that the primary focus of the Krishi Samruddhi Yojana is to enhance capital investment, develop infrastructure, lower production costs, boost productivity, diversify crops, strengthen the value chain, and elevate farmers' incomes by endorsing sustainable and climate-friendly agricultural practices.
He expressed optimism that this scheme will genuinely transform the lives of farmers.
This announcement by Kokate follows a controversy surrounding a viral video depicting him playing rummy during a recent legislative session. Despite calls for his resignation from opposition and farmers' groups, Kokate has opted to remain in his position, requesting an inquiry into the allegations with a commitment to resign if proven guilty.
He also sparked further debate by stating that the government operates as a “beggar, not the farmers.”
The Chief Minister expressed disappointment over Kokate's denial of playing rummy, emphasizing that such behavior during serious discussions in the State Assembly is intolerable. He criticized the minister’s actions, asserting that members should focus on legislative duties instead of engaging in games during sessions.
