Mumbai, July 11 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, announced in the state Assembly that a dedicated initiative is set to begin aimed at returning lands wrongfully taken from the impoverished across Maharashtra.
In his address, he relayed that the government has been alerted to numerous complaints regarding the unlawful appropriation of land belonging to the needy through coercion, force, or deceit. This was in response to a query put forth by Congress legislator Aslam Shaikh.
Minister Bawankule stated, "A report indicated that unauthorized structures were erected on the land of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's descendant, Yashwant Bhimrao Ambedkar, located in Golavli, Kalyan taluka. Approximately 72 apartments and 8 commercial buildings were built on this property. All these illegal constructions have been razed, and the land has been restored to the Ambedkar heirs. An investigation will be conducted into the actions of the officials involved, and necessary measures will be taken. The citizens who purchased apartments and businesses there will not be held accountable and will receive compensation. "
He further informed that the Revenue Department will collaborate with relevant agencies to oversee the sale of huts in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
"The government is committed to tackling land mafias decisively. Stringent measures will be enforced against them. Relevant agencies must safeguard government land to prevent any encroachments. Discussions regarding legislation to deter encroachments on government properties will take place with the Chief Minister. The Nagpur District Collector will be notified concerning encroachments in Nagpur city," he emphasized.
In a related statement, Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil mentioned that the Soil and Water Conservation Department is executing the 'Sediment-free Dam, Sediment-filled Shivar' initiative aimed at clearing silt from small irrigation projects.
Additionally, a program is underway to remove encroachments in dam areas, utilizing drone surveys. This was in reply to a question posed by Shiv Sena legislator Manisha Kayande regarding funding for lake clean-up.
Minister Vikhe Patil stated that under the 'Sediment-free dam, sediment-filled Shivar' scheme, farmers can access funding of Rs 35.75 per cubic meter, up to Rs 15,000, through the District Collector for silt removal. He also noted that the Mechanical Department’s equipment will be effectively used for this purpose.
