Kolkata, April 18 (NationPress) BJP's Information Technology cell chief and the party's central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, on Friday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of “systematically damaging” the state’s education system.

To support his claims, he cited the ruling by the Calcutta High Court’s single-judge bench of Justice Biswajit Basu on April 7, which mandated the West Bengal government to cease salary payments to 313 teachers in government-aided schools located in the hills of Darjeeling, Kurseong, and Kalimpong under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).

“The Court determined these appointments were unjustifiable and in blatant violation of due process. Alarmingly, numerous appointees did not possess the essential Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree required for teaching at secondary and higher secondary levels. Mamata Banerjee can no longer conceal herself behind rhetoric. The citizens of Bengal are being misled—once again,” Malviya stated on his official X handle.

On April 7, while ordering the suspension of salary for these 313 teachers, Justice Basu questioned why taxpayers’ money from the state treasury should be used to pay salaries to teachers whose entire hiring process was unlawful.

To recall, in April last year, a division bench upheld a previous order of the same court directing a CBI investigation into allegations of recruitment irregularities in schools managed by the GTA.

The directive for a CBI inquiry was issued by the single-judge bench of Justice Biswajit Basu. Nevertheless, the state government appealed against this ruling in front of the division bench of Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Madhuresh Prasad. However, since the division bench also affirmed the order of the single-judge bench, the CBI investigation remains ongoing.
