Kolkata, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, stands out as the singular political figure in India with the tenacity and skill to confront the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), declared Akhilesh Yadav, President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, during his visit on Tuesday.

Having arrived in Kolkata on Monday night for a family event, Yadav proceeded to the state secretariat, Nabanna, on Tuesday afternoon for discussions with Banerjee.

Post-meeting, he held a press conference where he asserted that the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections would reaffirm that Mamata Banerjee is the only leader capable of challenging the BJP's dominance.

“Across the nation, Mamata Banerjee is the only one effectively countering the BJP. It’s only a matter of time before the BJP faces a significant defeat in West Bengal. The Enforcement Directorate has already faced setbacks against her. Now, it’s the BJP’s turn to acknowledge their defeat. Again, I stress that Mamata Banerjee is the sole leader in this country who is confronting the BJP effectively,” Yadav remarked.

He also supported Banerjee’s staunch opposition to the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.

“The SIR reflects the BJP’s anxiety over losing. The sole aim of the Election Commission of India (ECI) appears to be removing genuine voters from the rolls under the guise of SIR. The Commission is acting as a proxy for the BJP. However, such schemes will not succeed. It’s only a matter of time until Mamata Banerjee secures her fourth consecutive term as Chief Minister of West Bengal,” he added.

Political analysts suggest that by labeling Mamata Banerjee as the only leader capable of opposing the BJP, Yadav has sent a clear message to Congress to avoid its perceived “big-brotherly” stance within the opposition coalition, INDIA.

“Both Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav have previously had disagreements with Congress on various matters and have criticized its dominance within the opposition. On Tuesday, Yadav subtly reiterated this point,” noted a political analyst based in the city.
