New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Political friction intensified on Saturday between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav and senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh launched a fierce critique against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding her comments on the state's voter list revision process.

In an interview with IANS, Minister Yadav condemned Banerjee's political behavior, stating that she should practice caution in her statements and actions.

“Mamata Banerjee must recognize the limits of her political discourse. She appears to think that by criticizing the government and Narendra Modi, she will gain traction among NRI and other voters,” Yadav remarked.

He accused the Chief Minister of intentionally sparking political controversies to stay relevant and claimed such statements erode democratic institutions.

Furthering the attacks, BJP leader and former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh accused Banerjee of intimidating officials and fostering a climate of fear within the state administration.

“Mamata Banerjee consistently threatens everyone, repeatedly targeting individuals. Due to her intimidation, several BLOs have taken drastic measures, resulting in suicides and health crises. District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and Block Development Officers all face her threats,” Ghosh alleged.

He also asserted that the Chief Minister is unsettled by the ongoing voter list revision, revealing that approximately 58 lakh names have been removed, which he believes jeopardizes her illegal vote bank. “However, the people of West Bengal are informed. Despite her attempts to mislead them, they have been proactive in submitting their documents,” Ghosh stated.

The BJP leaders' comments were triggered by Banerjee's strong statements during a public gathering in Krishnanagar in Nadia district earlier this week.

In her address to party supporters, the Chief Minister accused the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of plotting to manipulate the voter list ahead of the Assembly elections. “Certain BJP-aligned officials have been dispatched to West Bengal to pressure District Magistrates into removing 1.5 crore names from the voter list,” Banerjee claimed.

She asserted that Bengal would not succumb to external pressures. “They are unaware that Bengal stands firm. If anyone's name is eliminated from the voter list, I will initiate a dharna,” she declared, hinting at a potential protest if mass deletions occur.

Banerjee was addressing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, for which the ECI has appointed observers to oversee the process in the state.

Point of View

The ongoing clashes between the BJP and the TMC reflect the larger political dynamics in India. With both parties accusing each other of undermining democracy, it's crucial to observe how these tensions affect governance and electoral integrity in West Bengal.
