New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) In response to the gang-rape incident in Durgapur, where the victim's father asserted that "Aurangzeb's rule prevails in West Bengal," BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday. He accused her of attempting to conceal the atrocities against 'Maa Durga' through victim shaming and blaming.
In an interview with IANS, Chugh stated, "Mamata Banerjee has spoken of Maa (Mother), Mati (Soil), and Manush (Human), yet under her governance, the mothers and fathers of Bengal feel shame. The soil is drenched in the blood of our daughters and sons. No one feels secure on Bengal's soil, regardless of their identity. The government led by Mamata Banerjee exhibits a merciless 'Jihadi mindset.' This gang rape serves as a stark representation of that reality."
He continued, "Rather than enforcing stringent measures, statements suggesting women should remain confined are being issued. Such remarks effectively provide cover for criminals. Mamata Banerjee's attempts to veil the atrocities against 'Maa Durga' through victim shaming and blaming must cease. She has consistently downplayed rape incidents across various hospitals and colleges. CM Mamata must stop portraying rapists positively and instead take decisive steps to safeguard victims," Chugh remarked to IANS.
Chugh also commented on the recent charges against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi regarding the alleged IRCTC scam.
“In the lawless regime of the Lalu family, numerous scams have become infamous. There have been countless scams—this entire scheme was merely a means to enrich Lalu Prasad Yadav. He has been engaged in this deceit for years, and now he faces exposure,” Chugh added.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a Delhi court outlined charges against RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family concerning the IRCTC hotel scam.
The Rouse Avenue Court's ruling has initiated the trial against the accused under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with the Prevention of Corruption Act, after they pleaded not guilty.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne reserved his order on May 29 after reviewing comprehensive arguments regarding the conspiracy, cheating, and corruption charges against Lalu Prasad, Tejashwi Yadav, Prem Gupta, Sarla Gupta, and Railway officials Rakesh Saksena and P.K. Goyal.
The alleged scam took place between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Prasad served as Union Railway Minister. During this period, two hotels were leased without adhering to proper protocols.
This case revolves around alleged irregularities in the contract awarded for maintaining two IRCTC hotels to a firm while Lalu Prasad Yadav held the Railway Minister position. One hotel was assigned to Sarla Gupta, wife of Prem Gupta, a close associate of Lalu Prasad, who was also a Rajya Sabha MP at that time.
