New Delhi, June 30 (NationPress) In a response to the troubling Kolkata Law College rape incident, Union Minister Giriraj Singh asserted that West Bengal has become perilous for both Hindus and women during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's tenure. “Currently, under Mamata Banerjee's administration, Bengal is unsafe for Hindus and girls alike. The remarks from TMC leaders are profoundly disgraceful, yet Mamata, despite being a woman, has not provided any clarification. Her silence on her party leaders' controversial comments is alarming,” Singh remarked, criticizing the Chief Minister's lack of response to the shocking statements made by her party members following the incident.
Adding to this sentiment, senior BJP figure and former Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi expressed, “The reaction of TMC leaders concerning the Kolkata rape case is highly troubling. It seems that severe criminal activities in the city are being minimized by the state government. When a locale starts to show tendencies of becoming a crime hotspot, it rightfully raises concerns. Under the current regime, there are increasing claims that certain individuals with criminal backgrounds are being shielded through political ties. This issue necessitates immediate scrutiny and responsibility.”
In a different perspective, Congress MP Imran Masood criticized the BJP for dispatching a fact-finding team, questioning their role in addressing such crimes. “Is the BJP acting as an investigative agency? Are they adhering to any global standards? They should also focus on their own states. This is a societal issue that requires intellectual engagement, not political maneuvering,” Masood stated.
On Saturday, the BJP revealed a four-member fact-finding team to look into the incident, which will evaluate the circumstances surrounding the crime and present a report to the party leadership.
On June 25, a first-year female law student reportedly faced a rape incident on the grounds of South Calcutta Law College, allegedly involving three individuals connected to the Trinamool Congress' student wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP).
