Kolkata, June 27 (NationPress) In response to the assault of a law student within a Kolkata law college on Wednesday night, Amit Malviya, who heads the BJP’s Information Technology Cell and serves as the party’s central observer for West Bengal, stated on Friday that the current Trinamool Congress administration has transformed the state into a nightmare for women, where sexual violence has become an everyday occurrence.
Among the three individuals arrested in connection to this case, one is a former student of law, while the other two are current students at the South Kolkata Law College (new campus) in Kasba, where the incident occurred.
The victim is also enrolled at the same institution.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Malviya indicated that there are reports suggesting a Trinamool Congress leader might be implicated in the incident.
Furthermore, Malviya recalled the rape and murder of a junior doctor from the state-operated R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata last August.
“The trauma of RG Kar remains fresh, yet such brutal acts continue to escalate daily in Bengal. Under Mamata Banerjee’s governance, West Bengal has devolved into a nightmare for women. Rape has morphed into a tragic norm,” Malviya asserted in his statement.
“The BJP stands resolutely with the victim and her family. We are committed to eradicating this culture of impunity. We will not cease until justice is served,” he emphasized.
Addressing the gravity of the situation, the state’s Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister, as well as the Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Firhad Hakim, remarked that he could not provide comments until he receives more information regarding the case.
“I learned about this issue from the media. This is a serious matter, and I will discuss it only after I have the details,” Hakim stated.
Previously, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, mentioned that he and his party would pursue the case until its conclusion, likening it to the significant R.G. Kar rape and murder incident.
“The Chief Minister should resign immediately,” Adhikari insisted.
However, as of the time of this report, there has been no comment from Chief Minister Banerjee, who is currently attending the Ratha Yatra at the Jagannath Temple in Digha, located in East Midnapore district.
