Kolkata, Oct 22 (NationPress) The BJP charged the Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration on Wednesday with having reshaped West Bengal’s governmental institutions into a “party-dominated system” throughout its 14 years in power.
“For the past 14 years, Mamata Banerjee has intentionally evaded hiring permanent personnel, transforming every institution and agency into a party-controlled ecosystem managed by her loyalists,” asserted BJP IT Cell head and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, in a post on social media.
His comments came in response to the reported assault of a female doctor at a government hospital in Howrah by a home guard on Tuesday. The female doctor was allegedly threatened with rape by the accused, who is reportedly affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Malviya drew comparisons to the R.G. Kar Medical College incident from last August, where Sanjay Roy, the lone convict in the rape and murder of a doctor, was a civic volunteer—an auxiliary role akin to that of a home guard—associated with the Kolkata Police.
In his social media remarks, Malviya argued that the so-called civic volunteers and home guards in West Bengal are merely Trinamool Congress cadre members in uniform, who lack accountability, exhibit arrogance, and behave recklessly.
He identified the alleged assailant in the Howrah incident as Sheikh Babulal, a traffic home guard with the Uluberia Traffic Guard and a local Trinamool strongman. Subsequently, police arrested three individuals, including Babulal.
Malviya alleged that such offenses occur because the perpetrators are “guaranteed protection” from the ruling party.
The opposition leader in the West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, also took to social media on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that these crimes happen because offenders feel assured of protection from the Trinamool Congress leaders.
“These uncivilized and barbaric individuals do not even spare those dedicated to caring for the sick, which is a profound disgrace to humanity. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has no right to continue in her position, as under her leadership, the respect for mothers, sisters, daughters, and women has been completely undermined. However, she will neither take action against such threats nor resign, as she did not during the R.G. Kar incident,” Adhikari added.
