Kolkata, March 31 (NationPress) In her message commemorating the Eid festival on Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee charged the two leading opposition parties in the state, specifically the BJP and the CPI(M)-led Left Front, with being equally culpable for fostering communal discord in the region.
While criticizing these opposing factions, which hold divergent political views, the Chief Minister referred to them as “Ram-Bam (Ram and Left).
“These days, Ram-Bam prompts questions about my religious identity. My response is that I embody Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh identities simultaneously, and fundamentally, I am an Indian. What are the opposition parties doing? They are merely sowing division among people. My life is devoted to this nation,” the Chief Minister articulated during her address at Red Road in central Kolkata to mark the Eid festival.
On this occasion, she also issued a warning regarding potential attempts to incite communal strife in the state ahead of the upcoming Ram Navami festival on April 6. Accompanying her on stage was the party’s general secretary and Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee.
Without explicitly naming the BJP, she mentioned that certain vested interests might have plans to instigate communal unrest. “Please do not fall into the traps of provocations aimed at creating riot-like scenarios. Always remember that your didi (referring to herself) is here for you. Abhishek is here for you. The entire state government stands with you. Now, one can do anything with you,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Again, without naming the BJP, she urged the public not to engage with those political entities that promote divisive politics.
“Just deliver them an appropriate response when the time comes. They are attempting to dictate what people consume and how they dress. I wish to avoid any riot-like circumstances in the state. Always keep in mind that ordinary citizens do not incite communal riots. Such turmoil is instigated by specific political parties,” the Chief Minister stated.
During her address, she also claimed that she follows the teachings of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda. “However, I do not endorse the religious ideology propagated by one opposition party. Their path is anti-Hinduism,” the Chief Minister concluded.
