Suvendu Adhikari Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Communalism
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 22 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has labeled Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as "communal" during a recent address on Sunday.
This statement came after Banerjee celebrated Eid at Red Road on Saturday, where she fiercely criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Modi, reaffirming her dedication to the people of West Bengal.
Adhikari was campaigning in Nandigram for the upcoming two-phase state Assembly elections set for April 23 and 29.
While speaking to the media at his rally, Adhikari asserted, "Mamata Banerjee is inherently communal. The namaz is meant for those who practice Islam. Is Mamata Banerjee a Muslim? She is not. Women’s namaz is conducted separately."
He further accused the Trinamool Congress leader of exploiting a religious occasion for political gain.
He stated, "At the Khilafat Committee’s event yesterday, she referred to our Prime Minister as an infiltrator. Who makes such remarks during a religious gathering? I attend such events too, but I don’t politicize them by endorsing the BJP or disparaging the Chief Minister."
Regarding BJP's appeal within the Muslim community, he remarked, "This time, we are receiving substantial support. Even on Eid, when I visited Haldia—despite it being their festival—many attended my rally. Over 50 young Muslim men are participating in this campaign."
Adhikari highlighted the pressing issue of unemployment, noting, "30,000 young individuals from Nandigram are seeking work in other states as migrant laborers, with 18,000 being Muslim youth. Additionally, more than 3,000 Muslim youths are employed in Maharashtra under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis."
Moreover, he claimed that the Trinamool Congress had leveraged the National Register of Citizens (NRC) controversy to secure votes in the 2021 Lok Sabha elections.
He concluded, "Voters now understand that the Trinamool Congress exploited the NRC issue in 2021. This time, neither Hindus, Muslims, nor any other group stands with Mamata Banerjee."
Discussing his campaign in Nandigram, Adhikari remarked, "I am here because this place is my home, not merely for the election. The BJP has nominated me again from here. I have come to connect with the workers and the community. Nandigram and Suvendu are inseparable."
