Thrissur (Kerala), Nov 3 (NationPress) The iconic actor Mammootty, aged 74, has once again cemented his legendary status in Indian cinema by winning the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his captivating portrayal of Kodumon Potty in Rahul Sadasivan’s critically acclaimed Bhramayugam.

This award represents Mammootty's 12th State Award and his eighth for Best Actor, marking a significant achievement in a career that spans over five decades and encompasses more than 400 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.

His role in Bhramayugam, a psychological period drama, received widespread acclaim for its profound depth, subtlety, and compelling screen presence, reinforcing his status as one of the most formidable actors in Indian cinema.

Since his debut in the 1970s, Mammootty has consistently been a vital presence in Malayalam cinema, adeptly balancing mainstream success with artistic integrity.

This recognition comes as he continues to explore challenging roles, garnering both critical and popular praise.

The 55th Kerala State Film Awards, revealed on Monday by Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian, highlighted the creative prowess of Malayalam cinema.

Manjummel Boys, directed by Chidambaram, emerged as the top winner, taking home the Best Film and Best Director awards along with several technical accolades for cinematography (Shaiju Khalid), art direction (Ajayan Chalissery), sound design (Shijin Melvin), and lyrics (Vedan).

In response to the win, Chidambaram expressed that the recognition was a “perfect team victory,” acknowledging the tremendous support from his producers, cast, and the real-life friends who inspired the film.

Actor Soubin Shahir, who played a pivotal role and also secured the Best Character Actor award, expressed his excitement that the Manjummel Boys team was recognized in multiple categories.

Lyricist Vedan, currently out on bail in a sexual assault case, expressed happiness that his work received recognition for the film’s team.

The Best Actress award was awarded to Shamla Hamsa for her outstanding performance in Feminichi Fathima. “This was completely unexpected. Competing against so many seasoned actors and knowing that my performance resonated with audiences is profoundly fulfilling,” she remarked.

With Bhramayugam, Manjummel Boys, and Feminichi Fathima sweeping the top honors, this year’s awards have underscored the creative diversity and evolving strength of Malayalam cinema.

Popular South Indian actor Prakash Raj presided over the jury. Voicing his satisfaction with the selection process, he stated, “I genuinely enjoyed watching these films and witnessing their creative journeys. It was an honor to be part of this.”
