Barabanki, Nov 4 (NationPress) The death toll from the tragic road accident on the Kalyani River bridge along the Deva-Fatehpur Road in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki has now reached eight, as two more injured individuals succumbed to their wounds.
Out of the eight fatalities, six people died instantly at the scene. Two critically injured victims passed away in a Lucknow hospital, marking a devastating loss for an entire jeweller’s family.
Reports indicate that a speeding truck collided head-on with an unregistered Ertiga car on the Kalyani River bridge late Monday night.
The force of the impact was so intense that the Ertiga car was utterly crushed, leading to widespread panic in the vicinity. Bystanders quickly notified authorities, who responded promptly and transported the injured to the local district hospital. Two were later referred to the Lucknow Trauma Centre, where they tragically lost their lives.
The deceased have been identified as Shrikant Shukla, Pradeep Soni, his wife Madhuri Soni, and their son Nitin, all hailing from Fatehpur town. One victim remains unidentified. The injured include Naimish, Pradeep Soni’s younger son, and another unidentified individual.
All occupants of the car were returning home after taking a sacred dip in the Ganga at Bithoor in Kanpur district.
Upon being notified of the incident, District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi and Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpit Vijayvargiya arrived at the scene to oversee relief efforts. SP Vijayvargiya indicated that initial investigations point to speeding as the main cause of the accident.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Yadav mentioned that the bodies will be returned to their families following post-mortem examinations.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the truck was traveling at an alarming speed. The driver reportedly lost control upon approaching the oncoming vehicle, leading to the catastrophic collision. The police have since seized the truck.
