Jammu, March 20 (NationPress) A man has been apprehended for violently assaulting his wife in the Jammu district of J&K, following a complaint from his daughter-in-law, as reported by officials on Thursday.
According to the police report, in the Amb Gharota area on March 9, Nusrat Kousar, the spouse of Dil Mohd from Pamali Jandyal, lodged a complaint stating that her father-in-law, Sadaq Hussain, along with Nazir Ahmed, Noor Begum, and Mumtaz Bibi, attacked her mother-in-law, Noor Jahan.
The accused purportedly injured her legs while she was on her way to the fields, forcibly pulled her into a room, and assaulted her.
Two other individuals, Mubarak Hussain and Saber Hussain, subsequently threatened the complainant with severe repercussions.
“In a prompt response, the police filed FIR No. 32/2025 under relevant sections of the BNS and initiated an investigation.
“Through tireless efforts, the primary suspect, Sadaq Hussain, was taken into custody, and based on his confession, the weapons used in the crime, including a danda and a kulhari (axe), were retrieved near the scene of the incident. He is currently under police remand, while measures are being taken to apprehend the other suspects,” said the officials.
“At the same time, a video of the incident has circulated widely on social media, depicting Sadaq Hussain attacking his wife with a lathi, which has heightened public outrage. The police have committed to a comprehensive investigation and strict legal action against those responsible,” the police statement confirmed.
Authorities are taking a firm stance against crimes targeting women to encourage more victims to come forward and exercise their legal rights, as previously stated by the police.
The fear of familial backlash, negative public attention, and potential retaliation from relatives of the accused often hinders women from seeking legal redress for the crimes they suffer. With increasing awareness, education, and social consciousness, society is witnessing a decline in crimes against women due to the enforcement of law.
Typically, crimes against women are linked to issues such as dowry, conflicts with in-laws, or the irresponsible behavior of husbands in the Union Territory. In rare instances, these crimes stem from custody disputes between separated couples.
