New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Two young men consuming alcohol at Sanjay Lake Park in the Pandav Nagar area of East Delhi were reportedly attacked with a knife during a robbery attempt, according to police statements made on Thursday.

One victim, identified as Lukha Choudhary alias Vikram, tragically lost his life at the scene, while the other, Vakil, suffered severe injuries and remains in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the two men were seated in the park on Wednesday night when an unidentified assailant approached them with the intention to rob. When Lukha resisted, the attacker reportedly stabbed both individuals before fleeing the scene. Lukha succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Vakil was promptly transported to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for urgent medical care.

Kanchan, the widow of the deceased, mentioned that the incident occurred late in the evening.

“When he didn’t return home, I began to look for him. The assailant had taken his phone and money,” she told IANS.

In response, the Pandav Nagar police have taken charge of the body and have sent it to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Multiple teams have been assigned to locate and apprehend the suspect. Police officials indicated that they are working to identify the attacker with the help of CCTV footage and local intelligence.

This incident raises alarms amidst growing concerns regarding stabbing incidents across Delhi and the National Capital Region. In a related move, the Delhi Police has initiated a crackdown on online delivery services for allegedly distributing large knives that contravene government regulations, as police discovered that offenders in at least two recent knife-related incidents obtained their weapons online.

The frequency of stabbing incidents has surged alarmingly.

On February 3, a 22-year-old delivery worker was fatally stabbed by three minors in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar following a dispute. Authorities reported that the juveniles were subsequently detained. This confrontation unfolded when the minors arrived on a motorcycle and, after a brief argument, attacked the victim with a sharp weapon before escaping.

On February 10, a shopkeeper was murdered, and a laborer was injured during a dispute over charging a mobile device in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area.

On January 31, the Delhi-NCR region experienced three stabbing incidents, including a double homicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Khora area and the killing of a 25-year-old man in Shastri Park in North East Delhi, intensifying concerns over the rising violent crime rates in the area.

On January 22, another 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Delhi’s Mangolpuri area.

On January 16, a 21-year-old was also fatally stabbed on Sindhu Farm Road in the Jaitpur police jurisdiction of Southeast Delhi.
