Manipur: Armed Encounter Results in Militant Death and Six Arrests

Imphal, Dec 14 (NationPress) An armed militant was fatally shot, while six others were taken into custody after a violent confrontation between Manipur Police Commandos and a militant faction in Thoubal District on Saturday, according to officials.
A substantial amount of arms, ammunition, and various electronic devices were also seized from the incident location.
A senior police officer in Imphal disclosed that the militants attacked the Manipur Police Commandos during a routine patrol at Salungpham Thongkhong in Thoubal district.
The Commando unit retaliated against the assault, leading to the capture of six militants, while one sustained injuries during the shootout. The injured militant later died at a private medical facility.
Another police source indicated that the militants, who were traveling in two vehicles, were initially pursued on suspicion.
The armed group opened fire at the police commando, which prompted a fierce exchange, according to the official.
The body of the deceased militant Laishram Prem, also known as Loktak Singh (18), was transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for an autopsy.
The arrested militants have been identified as Thokchom Momocha (41), Sarangthem Anand Singh (36), Ningthoujam Karna Singh (27), Ningthoujam Manoranjan Singh (21), Thongam Phalguni (27), and Moirangthem Johnson (21).
A significant cache of arms and ammunition, including two INSAS Rifles (5.56 mm), one Amogh Rifle (5.56 mm), one .303 Rifle, one SLR (7.62 mm), one INSAS Folding Rifle (5.56 mm), and a large quantity of various ammunition types, along with five mobile phones, were recovered.
The Thoubal District Police are currently verifying whether the deceased and those arrested are members of any militant organization or armed village volunteers.
