New Delhi/Imphal, Feb 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with his two Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, convened a meeting on Sunday with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address significant matters, notably the rehabilitation of those affected by violence, known as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), as reported by officials.
An official from Imphal revealed that the Union Home Minister engaged with the three leaders from Manipur about the initiatives taken by the newly formed state government to dismantle divisions among communities and restore peace and harmony.
"Since the establishment of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in Manipur, various outreach programs have been initiated to promote peace and harmony among the communities," the official noted, reflecting on the discussions that took place at the residence of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The Union Home Minister assured Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, of comprehensive assistance from the Central government to facilitate the restoration of peace and normalcy in the region.
Union Minister Shah also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the rehabilitation of the IDPs affected by ethnic violence, promising full support from the Centre for this initiative.
This meeting marked the first engagement between CM Khemchand Singh and Union Home Minister Shah since the former assumed the role of Chief Minister of Manipur on February 4.
Accompanying him were Deputy Chief Ministers Losii Dikho from the Naga People's Front and Nemcha Kipgen from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Notably, Kipgen, representing the Kuki community and hailing from the tribal Kangpokpi district, is recognized as Manipur's first female Deputy Chief Minister.
Following the discussions with Union Home Minister Shah, CM Khemchand Singh took to the social media platform X, stating: "We engaged in a comprehensive and constructive dialogue on critical topics regarding Manipur, which included strategies for peace, stability, rehabilitation, and development."
He further stated, "The Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured us that the Central government would extend every possible support to expedite the resettlement and rehabilitation of the IDPs."
On behalf of the people of Manipur, Khemchand Singh expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his unwavering support, guidance, and commitment to the welfare of the state.
