New Delhi/Imphal, Feb 23 (NationPress) Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman conveyed her commitment to Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday, promising full support to rejuvenate the state's economic landscape.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office in Imphal reported that the Finance Minister also pledged assistance from the Centre for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have been impacted by ethnic conflicts in the region.
The Chief Minister emphasized the necessity for increased financial aid to Manipur to foster inclusive development during his discussions with the Finance Minister.
Referring to the meeting as productive, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh expressed gratitude to Sitharaman for attentively addressing the state's concerns and challenges.
Accompanying him were his two Deputy Chief Ministers: Losii Dikho from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Nemcha Kipgen from the BJP. Kipgen, a member of the Kuki community from the tribal Kangpokpi district, holds the distinction of being the first female Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur. This marks Khemchand Singh's inaugural visit to the national capital since assuming office as the new BJP Chief Minister on February 4.
Earlier that day, the Chief Minister met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who also assured him of comprehensive support from his ministry for the various initiatives undertaken by the state government.
While in New Delhi since Saturday, the Chief Minister also met with BJP National President Nitin Nabin and the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh to discuss matters pertinent to the party in Manipur. On Sunday, alongside his two Deputy Chief Ministers, he met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address multiple concerns, including the rehabilitation of IDPs, as stated by officials in Imphal.
According to the CMO representative, the Home Minister engaged with the three leaders from Manipur about the initiatives being undertaken by the new state government aimed at dismantling barriers among communities and reinstating peace and unity within the state.
