Manipur's CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh Stresses Peace and Unity After Engaging with President Murmu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi/Imphal, March 25 (NationPress) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has once again emphasized that unity, harmony, and peace are the foundational values guiding his administration as he strives to bring stability to the state.
During a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, he provided an update on the current situation in Manipur, highlighting the coordinated efforts being implemented by his government.
In a post on his official X account, Singh expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the President and discussed the dynamic situation in Manipur, reinforcing that unity, harmony, and peace continue to be his government’s core principles.
This visit marks his second trip to the capital since taking office just 50 days ago.
Previously, on February 22, the Chief Minister, alongside two Deputy Chief Ministers, Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, participated in several high-level discussions in New Delhi.
The delegation engaged with PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Key topics of discussion included the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) impacted by ethnic violence in the state.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office noted that the Union Home Minister reviewed the new government’s initiatives aimed at bridging community divides and working towards restoring peace and harmony.
During this visit, Singh and his deputies also conferred with BJP President Nitin Nabin and National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh regarding organizational strategies.
One month post the swearing-in ceremony, on March 4, the Chief Minister allocated portfolios among his Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers while retaining most key departments under his direct oversight, as per officials.
However, seven ministerial positions are still unfilled.
Political analysts have remarked that Singh, who took office as the 13th Chief Minister of Manipur on February 4, faces the daunting challenge of guiding the state through a prolonged period of unrest and rebuilding trust among communities affected by ethnic violence since May 2023.
The crisis escalated during the tenure of former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, whose resignation came amidst rising tensions.
This unrest ultimately led to the imposition of President’s Rule on February 13 to stabilize law and order.
The new government headed by Singh commenced its operations after President’s Rule was lifted on February 4, marking a new chapter in efforts to restore normalcy in the state.
