Imphal, Oct 20 (NationPress) In a significant move after over thirty-six years, the Manipur government has raised the annual uniform allowance for its police officers and personnel, officials confirmed on Monday.
A senior official revealed that the Governor-in-Council, led by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, has endorsed a proposal from the Police Headquarters to revise the uniform allowance for Manipur Police Service (MPS) officers and Junior Commissioned Officers (Inspectors, Subedars, Sub-Inspectors, and Jemadars) to Rs 8,000 and Rs 6,000, respectively.
The uniform allowance that was set in 1989 for Manipur police officers had not seen any changes for the past 36 years.
The official added that the Governor had previously sanctioned an increase in ration money for various state security forces, including Manipur Rifles, Civil Police, Manipur Police telecommunication organization, central motor transport workshop, and Village Defence Force (VDF).
This monthly allowance has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per person, effective from September 1, 2025.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla emphasized the accomplishments of the Manipur Police and commended their effective operations against extremism, eradication of illegal poppy farming, and strides in modernization and welfare projects.
During the 134th Raising Day Parade of Manipur Police held on Sunday at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal, the Governor recognized the bravery of those who serve with integrity and compassion daily. Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, inspected the parade contingents of Manipur Police.
He praised the courage, professionalism, and selfless service of the Manipur Police, referring to them as the guardians of peace and harmony in the state.
The Governor acknowledged the relentless efforts of the state police in maintaining law and order, combating organized crime and drug trafficking, and ensuring citizen safety even under challenging conditions.
He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing the police force through improved infrastructure, advanced training, and welfare initiatives.
The Governor also congratulated Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Naorem Roshibina Devi for bringing international recognition to the state and the Manipur Police through their exceptional sporting achievements.
