Imphal, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, inaugurated the ‘Addiction Free Manipur Campaign’ on Monday, continuing the state government's longstanding initiative, the ‘War Against Drug Campaign’, which has been active for several years.
The campaign was launched at the Raj Bhavan, organized by Brahma Kumaris in partnership with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), a flagship initiative of the Union Government.
An official indicated that the campaign's primary objective is to address the issue of substance abuse throughout the state by raising awareness, mobilizing the masses, and conducting outreach within communities, particularly targeting vulnerable populations.
During the launch event at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, the Governor emphasized that the challenges posed by drug abuse and addiction necessitate community involvement and collaboration between governmental and non-governmental organizations.
He mentioned that under the NMBA, strategies have been developed to mitigate drug abuse across the nation.
Highlighting that a total of 372 districts nationwide have been included, Bhalla, a former Home Secretary, underscored the importance of prevention through awareness campaigns as a vital approach to effectively address the issue.
The Governor praised the initiative led by Brahma Kumaris, asserting that such endeavors aimed at creating a drug-free India are commendable.
He encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to rally behind this movement, unite to tackle the drug menace, and contribute to realizing a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.

Since 2017, the state government has been actively pursuing the ‘War Against Drug Campaign’. As part of this initiative, in addition to combating drug smuggling from Myanmar, various security forces in Manipur have been involved in the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation across the state.
